Implant Healing Timeline Planner
Put in your surgery date and the tool turns it into a calendar: swelling, stitches, osseointegration, impressions and the day your permanent teeth are normally fitted.
A typical schedule, not your schedule. Healing speed varies with bone quality, grafting, smoking and general health, and only your clinic can confirm the dates.
How to read the result
- The long wait in the middle is osseointegration — bone growing onto the implant surface. It cannot be shortened by feeling fine, and this is the single most common reason people misjudge their second trip.
- Lower jaws heal faster than upper jaws because the bone is denser, which is why the tool shifts the whole calendar when you change the jaw.
- A graft adds weeks before the implant can even be placed in some plans and after it in others. Ask your clinic which of the two they are doing — it changes the calendar completely.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a dental implant take to heal?
The gum settles within one to two weeks, but the part that matters — osseointegration, where bone bonds to the implant surface — takes about eight to twelve weeks in the lower jaw and twelve to sixteen in the upper. Grafting adds to that, sometimes considerably. This is why treatment in Turkey is normally two trips: implants are placed on the first, the permanent teeth are fitted on the second, and the gap between them is not padding but biology.
Can I have implants and permanent teeth in one trip?
You can have implants and temporary teeth in one trip, and for most full-arch cases that is exactly what happens — you fly home with fixed teeth the same week. What you cannot safely have is the final, permanent bridge, because it is made to fit gums that have finished healing and implants that have finished integrating. Clinics that promise permanent teeth in a week are either using the word loosely or planning to fit a restoration that will need remaking.
What slows implant healing down?
Smoking, by a wide margin, which is why most surgeons ask you to stop for at least two weeks either side of surgery and preferably longer. After that: uncontrolled diabetes, certain bone medications, radiotherapy to the jaw, and grafting itself. Age on its own is not on the list — an otherwise healthy person in their seventies heals about as predictably as someone in their forties.
